A SCARCE SIDELEVER VARIANT 12-BORE 1887 PATENT ROUND-ACTION TRIGGERPLATE-ACTION EJECTOR, serial no. 5256,
for 1900, 29in. fine damascus nitro barrels, the rib engraved 'JOHN DICKSON & SON, 63, PRINCES STREET, EDINBURGH' and '2' at the breech end, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 1/4 choke, left wall thickness at 19, light dents and rivels, Dickson patent round-action incorporating patents 9399 and 10621 of 1887, use number 849, the broad topstrap engraved '2', automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, profusely engraved with bold acanthus scrollwork and with scrolling banners engraved 'JOHN DICKSON & SON PATENT' to the sides, 14 5/8in. stock with some ink enhancement and 3/8in. wooden buttplate, the fore-end wood inset with a silver '2', weight 6lb. 7oz.

Provenance: The makers records list the gun as having 29in. barrels, No.2 of a pair, sold on 12th November 1900
